Andrea is all set to go back to film school

A CITY lecturer is turning student once again after being offered one of only eight places at a top film school in London.

Andrea Harkin, lecturer in TV and audio visual at Stevenson College Edinburgh, has secured a place at the prestigious National Film TV School (NFTS) in London to study for a masters degree in directing fiction.

Ms Harkin was first approached by a talent scout for NFTS during the Edinburgh International Film Festival last year at the premiere of her short film The Flyer.

The film was nominated in the Best First-Time Writer category from BAFTA Scotland and the Best First-Time Performance award for lead actress Aleksandra Kocela.

The Flyer tells the story of Polish immigrant Ana, a student living in Edinburgh with several jobs to make ends meet.

Ms Harkin, who has been working at Stevenson for three years, said: "The staff in our department have been hugely supportive of my personal and creative endeavours.

"The quality of the student work on the higher level creative courses here has also been a great inspiration to me.

"I'm really excited about being a student again."
