Amulance and car involved in Edinburgh city centre crash

A BUSY city centre street was closed for over an hour following a crash between an ambulance and a motorcar.

The incident happened just after 1.15pm at the junction of Bread Street and Lothian Road in Edinburgh.

At the time the ambulance had been ferrying a patient to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, although the journey was not classed as an emergency and neither lights nor sirens were engaged.

Both vehicles were damaged in the crash which involved the ambulance and a blue Mini. All parties including the Mini driver were transferred to the ERI but their injuries are not thought to be serious.

A police spokeperson said: “We received a call in relation to an accident between a car and an ambulance at the junction of Bread Street and Lothian Road at 1.25pm.

“It is not thought any serious injuries occurred as a result of the acccident.”

The road remained closed for over an hour but reopened shortly after 2.30pm.
