Ambulance is too sick for Mongolia run
FUNDRAISERS who planned to drive to Mongolia in a clapped-out ambulance have had to ditch their plans after it overheated – while they were staging a trial run to Fife.
The team, which is raising money for Edinburgh-based charity Mercy Corps, will now undertake the epic drive to Asia, which will see them travel through 21 countries, in a Nissan Micra.
They will set off from London later this month, along with four other teams from the Capital.
Ross Roxburgh, who heads up the team, called If Genghis Khan, We Can, said: "We've been forced to sell our first vehicle, a 1994 ambulance, because it overheated, and we decided it would never make it all the way to Mongolia. We've opted for a safe Nissan Micra instead."
The three other Edinburgh teams are called The Optimists, Team Wolfson and Panda Watch.
Panda Watch's Hector Falconer said: "I am so excited about the rally. We've already raised 2000 for Mercy Corps."
