The 37-year-old winning record Scotland failed to match in Six Nations clash with Wales

Scotland failed to make it five straight Six Nations wins for the first time in the competition’s current guise.

Gregor Townsend’s men fell to a 25-24 defeat to Wales at BT Murrayfield, failing to follow on from the famous 11-6 victory over England last weekend at Twickenham.

The result has knocked the stuffing out of the country’s hopes of winning their first championship since 1999 when it was still the Five Nations, while bringing an end to a four-game winning run.

Scotland haven't achieved five consecutive wins in the competition since 1984 when they won the Five Nations. The four victories were added to their sole victory in the 1983 edition, defeating England 22-12 in their final match of the championship.

Scotland lost the first two matches of the 2020 Six Nations, going down to Ireland and Wales.

However, they responded by defeating Italy, France and then Wales.

The momentum carried on into this tournament with the win over England before the Wales defeat.
