Album review: Frank Sinatra
FRANK SINATRA Sinatra At The Sands **** Reprise 0602527200040, £8.99
This classic album, recorded live in Las Vegas in 1966, offers a fascinating snapshot of what a Frank Sinatra gig would have been like. The great man, newly turned 50, is in fine form and he dishes up a string of songs associated with him, including The Shadow of Your Smile, introduced as "a new one". Count Basie's band, conducted by Quincy Jones, swings terrifically. The only drawback is Sinatra's uninspired (and racially insensitive) patter.
