SPINAL TAP: BACK FROM THE DEAD *** THE LABEL INDUSTRY, £12.72
METAL overlords Spinal Tap are the rock-related joke that keeps on giving. In recognition of their One Night Only World Tour comeback at Wembley Arena, they have returned with their first new material since their 1992 album, Break Like The Wind, padded out with "self-suppressed" archive studio versions of all-time classics of all time, such as Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight. It pains me to report that new numbers, such as Rock'n'Roll Nightmare and Warmer Than Hell, cannot compete with the seminal Stonehenge, or their reggae reworking of (Listen to the) Flower People – although the ridiculous pomp rock of Back From The Dead is a worthy addition to the Tap canon. Ever the innovators, they have also diversified into jazz on the three-part Jazz Odyssey and finger-in-the-ear a cappella folk with Celtic Blues. Is there no beginning to this band's talents?
