Album review: Morrissey - Years of Refusal
*** POLYDOR, £12.72
SO EVEN Morrissey has Morrissey fatigue these days, judging by the uniformly so-so music on this latest album. All the meat is to be found in the lyrics which, while often throwaway by his standards, can still supply mordantly funny titbits such as the album's opening couplet, "I'm doing very well, I can block out the present and the past now…"
After the unexpected rush of virile romance on Ringleader Of The Tormentors, Moz has returned to his default position of resigned disappointment on tracks such as I'm OK By Myself, concluding "there are worse things in life than never being someone's sweetie" among the pitch black drollery of That's How People Grow Up.
