Album review: Mariah Carey, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel
MARIAH CAREY Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel * * Mercury 27159270 £12.72
More creativity has clearly gone into airbrushing Mariah on the cover than the vapid and uninspiring musical content. She may think drug references and ripping Eminem on her latest hit Obsession lends her lumpen R'n'B a modern frisson, but it is tired and bland.
Candy Bling aspires to urban savvy but the gooey groove is too sickly for seduction, while Ribbon is lame lyrically, irritatingly adorned with Minnie Ripperton-like trills.
After the consolidation of her last album, E>MC2, this is a retrograde step, summed up by the hammy Foreigner cover, I Want To Know What Love Is.
