Andrew Marr's singer songwriter of choice has been turning out consistently good records since the demise of The Bible, but this one is exceptional, an album of superior Anglo-Saxon Americana aided by John McCusker on fiddle and Ewan Vernal on bass.
New Year's Eve is a simple tale well picked and plucked, and accordion brings a breeziness to Paris After The War, while Rags is a jazz-tinged melodic peach, oozing class from every bar. "Went to bed sober and woke up drunk," sings Boo, more bemused than remorseful, on a consistently strong collection of songs that deserves a wider audience.
