Air passenger numbers slump

PASSENGER numbers at Scotland's three largest airports slumped by 6.6 per cent last month in one of the largest monthly falls for at least a decade.

BAA blamed the collapse of airlines and charter firms such as Zoom and XL, together with falling passenger demand, for the slowdown at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Other airlines have also cut flights due to high fuel costs. Glasgow, Scotland's charter flight centre, was again hit the hardest, with an 11 per cent reduction in passengers to 786,273 compared with September last year.
