Actress admits she sexed up companion

ACTRESS Karen Gillan has revealed it was her choice to "sex up" Doctor Who sidekick Amy Pond by dressing her in short skirts.

The character has been getting viewers hot under the collar by travelling round the universe in mini-skirts.

Karen, from Inverness, said she worked with the programme's wardrobe gurus to devise Amy's style.

"She's got a sexy side and she's confident enough to wear those kinds of things," she said.

The new series recently came under fire from some viewers for a scene in which Amy tried to seduce the Doctor.

Speaking about the outfits, Gillan said: "I was part of the costume process. I like to think I had a bit of input there. I worked with the costume designer and we just thought that was one of the things that Amy likes to wear."

She added: "You know, she's a 21-year-old girl. Most 21-year-olds do wear clothes like that. I think with my input in it there's obviously stuff that I like in there and stuff that I would wear, but it's put with a different top that I wouldn't wear.

"So she has her own style, but aspects of my style."

During an interview on the BBC's Doctor Who website, actor Matt Smith, who plays the Time Lord, agreed that she had a rather saucy style.

"She's kind of sexy, Amy," he said.
