Action plan aims to help improve lives
A WEEK of action has been launched in a deprived area of the city to improve the lives of local people.
The council, police and a number of other voluntary organisations will come together to put on a range of events up until the weekend.
A mobile football pitch, a canal workshop and mounted police will all be part of the first event of its kind in the Calders area of the city.
A high-visibility police patrol will also be on hand throughout to ensure local people of their commitment to an area plagued by crime and drugs problems.
Litter and dog fouling wardens will also scrutinise the streets.
Cllr Tom Buchanan, the local authority's neighbourhood partnerships leader, said: "It is really encouraging to see people working together for the benefit of their local community.
"One of the reasons why the council set up neighbourhood partnerships was to allow residents to become involved in work on the ground."
George Moug, of the Calders High Rise Neighbourhood Council, added: "Working with police has seen positive changes."
