Accused says he 'felt sick' when burying body
A MAN accused of murdering an 87-year-old woman told police he felt sick when he dug a grave for her body.
John Lawson, 48, said he took Dolina MacLean to a forest track where he intended to leave her and flee in her vehicle. He assisted the frail pensioner when she had trouble getting out of the car, and asked her to please walk up the path.
Lawson told detectives he never laid a finger on Miss MacLean, but she stumbled and fell and banged her head.
He lifted her back to her feet, and she fell again. He attempted to resuscitate her, but she died.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Lawson, a former French Foreign Legionnaire, had buried Miss MacLean's body.
When asked by police how he felt when he did this, Lawson said: "Sick, definitely sick."
Lawson is accused of murdering Miss MacLean and attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of the body.
He denies the charges.
