A novel spelling of Waverley . .

WALTER Scott would not be amused.

With Edinburgh's main railway station named after his Waverley novels, the author would no doubt be disappointed to find that the tribute had fallen a little flat during the Capital's latest infrastructure improvements.

This sign, which misses the second 'e' from the word Waverley, has appeared on Princes Street as part of the tramwork diversions. It comes just days after tram firm TIE put up another diversion sign referring to "Hannover Street" rather than Hanover Street. Red-faced officials were at pains to point out that they corrected that blunder as soon as they were told about it.
