A hearty way to help patients
A NEW programme could improve the quality of life of patients with chronic heart failure.
Staff at NHS Lothian have developed exercise and breathing projects and psychological strategies to help the people affected.
Dr Iain Todd, a consultant in cardiovascular rehabilitation, said making clear patients' limitations could help them achieve more.
"Patients with chronic heart failure are frequently excluded from exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation programmes," he said.
"While supervised exercise programmes have been shown to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life for some patients with heart failure, inadequate supervision may lead to worsening heart failure."
