9am Briefing: Baggage handler rips £1m hole in holiday jet with truck crash

A BAGGAGE handler ripped a hole in a holiday jet, causing £1 million damage, it was reported today.

The brand new 40 million Boeing 737 was preparing to take off from Edinburgh airport when the baggage handler crashed a truck into the side of the plane.

The Flyglobespan jet was destined for Alicante on Sunday afternoon, and bosses had to find alternative seats for the Scots holidaymakers.

Fireworks to mark QE2's final voyage

THE final voyage of the QE2 will be marked by a "dazzling" fireworks display, flypast and flotilla of yachts in the Firth of Forth.

It was reported today that special events in the shadow of the Forth Road Bridge will mark the cruise liner's final journey in Scottish waters in October.

The vessel is too big to come into the Port of Leith and will instead drop anchor off South Queensferry.

Alcohol shots to eyes 'can lead to blindness'

YOUNG Scots are reportedly being warned that a new trend of pouring shots of alcohol directly into their eyes to get drunk quicker could lead to blindness.

Experts have said the craze, which originates in the bars of holiday resorts on the continent, can cause burst blood vessels in the eye.

Alcohol awareness counsellors are also "horrified" by the dangerous fad known as "one-in-the-eye," which is reportedly popular with students.

House made from recycled materials to feature in open day

A RECYCLED house in Rosewell is to feature in Midlothian Doors Open Day.

The 950,000 house was reportedly built using materials destined for the dump.

Flooring, beams and stained glass windows from an old mansion, steel beams and insulation left over from a supermarket expansion and oak from a canal lock are among the materials used to build Orchard House.
