70 stolen hens found cooped up in car

TRAFFIC police discovered a gang of chicken rustlers with 70 stolen hens crammed into the back of their car.

The three thieves were pulled over for bad driving when officers discovered the birds in a crate on the back seat and in the boot.

They were returned to owner Judy Morris's free-range egg farm in Wiltshire before she had even discovered they had gone missing.

Three men in the saloon car aged 35, 29 and 21 were arrested and have been released on police bail until next month.

Morris praised the police and added:

"I have no idea why anyone would try to steal 70 chickens in a car. The thought of three grown men running around with chickens in the middle of the night on the main road is farcical."
