40,000 calls to NHS 24 at New Year
SCOTLAND'S out-of-hours health helpline has had a busy festive season, with calls up on the previous year.
Over the New Year four-day break, NHS 24 received 39,331 calls. The busiest day was 2 January with 12,945 calls alone.
Last week, figures showed that the four-day Christmas period saw 37,590 calls to the helpline. At peak times, NHS 24 was receiving one call every two seconds.
A large number of calls were from patients suffering flu-like symptoms. Also, this year surgeries were shut for four days in a row, rather than just two like last year.
