£300k family support boost
FAMILIES struggling to cope with disability, bereavement or isolation will be helped by a £300,000 funding boost.
The Homestart project in Tranent has been given the cash from the Big Lottery Fund to expand its services in East Lothian.
The national charity set up the office seven years ago, with funding from East Lothian Council. It works with 27 local families, but will soon be able to help over 60.
The charity trains parent volunteers who offer support to other parents through home visiting, family and social events.
Reasons for needing help include post-natal illness, childhood disability, family breakdown and bereavement. Many simply feel isolated or are struggling to cope with several children.
Manager Linden Ross said: "Our volunteers do an amazing job and this funding will help up help many more parents and children in East Lothian."
