£2,000 goal for Maradona boots
THE boots worn by football legend Diego Maradona when he scored his first-ever international goal in a game against Scotland have been put up for auction.
The worn-out Puma boots were used by the young Argentine striker during a friendly match at Hampden Park – and have been offered for sale for 1,000 each.
Maradona scored the first of his 34 goals for his country aged just 18 during the 1979 match.
Now, 30 years on, his boots have been placed on internet auction site eBay, with a starting bid for the pair of 2,000.
The seller claims the boots were sold to him by an Argentine team-mate of Maradona's, who received them as a gift from the player after the match in Glasgow.
The friendly saw Maradona score in the world champions' 3-1 win over a Scotland team that included Kenny Dalglish, George Burley and John Wark.
Buyers have a week either to pay 2,000 or make an offer for the boots.
