£200k a year to cut smoking

FUNDING of almost £200,000 a year is to be put into stopping people in the Lothians smoking.

The Scottish Government cash will give NHS Lothian the support until 2011 to tackle a range of causes of smoking.

Edinburgh University's Professor Amanda Amos, who was a keynote speaker at a recent associated conference, said: "Achieving a reduction in young people smoking can't rely on just one agency or one approach – it needs a concerted effort by all those working with young people."
