£1.5m boost for learning disabilities
A £1.5 MILLION service for people with learning disabilities is set to open in Corstorphine in May.
The new service will provide care and support for six young people with a severe or complex learning disability.
Operated by Carr-Gomm Scotland, it will provide support for the young people who will live in adapted flats in a new housing development.
The project has been funded in part by money set aside by the council to meet the care needs of young people with learning disabilities, and the investment over the three-year contract is around 1.5 million.
Councillor Paul Edie, convener for health, social care and housing, said: "Improving services for people with a learning disability is one of the top priorities for this administration.
"I am determined that we should offer a wide range of high quality care options for our clients."
Chris Taylor, of Carr-Gomm Scotland, added: "We are proud to be chosen by the council to be part of supporting these young people in moving into their own flats, following their interests, having fun, learning new things, being part of their neighbourhood and keeping safe."
