£1m extra funding for 'Burns experience'

The Scottish Government is handing over an extra £1 million for a museum commemorating national poet Robert Burns.

Culture minister Fiona Hyslop yesterday announced the 1.084m package during a visit to The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, South Ayrshire. The museum is being rebuilt and is due to open on 1 December. The National Trust for Scotland plan an "integrated Burns experience" in the town.

Ms Hyslop said: "We are making this funding available in recognition of the national and international significance of this project."

The Scottish Government has contributed a total of 8.6m to the 21m project.
