£140k to end tram contract
ALMOST £140,000 was spent tearing up the contract with the French firm hired to run Edinburgh's trams, it has emerged.
Transdev was recruited in 2004 to operate Edinburgh's transport network once the trams were completed. However, they were axed in 2009 in a bid to cut costs. Tram firm TIE has now admitted that move cost 138,000.
The figure, released under Freedom of Information laws, shows 18,000 was spent on demobilisation and 120,000 on management costs.
However, TIE said overall the move had saved the taxpayer "in excess of 250,000."
