11 arrested in police raids as Class A drug seizures soar

SEIZURES of Class A drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine, have soared by a staggering 50 per cent in the north-east of Scotland in the past year.

Grampian Police's annual report shows the force recovered 26.4kg of Class A drugs, compared with 17.7 kg in the previous year, while the number of drug dealers charged with supply or possession with intent to supply rose 16.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, the force announced that 11 people had been arrested for drugs offences and more than 150,000 worth of drugs seized, as part of a crackdown on drug dealers in Elgin.

A Grampian spokesman said: "Officers raided five houses in the Elgin area on Monday as part of Operation Aki, and all the searches produced evidence of drugs. Quantities of heroin, methadone, cannabis and cannabis resin were recovered, and a cannabis cultivation set-up was also seized."
