Oozing New York cool from every musical pore, violinist Courtin's voice is easy on the ear, perhaps too much so. With session musicians of the calibre of Greg Cohen, Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench and Ryan Scott, this is a heavyweight line up for a debut album.
Her delicate tones gently caress the opening Green Jay and Bundah, but her songs lack character and she could be a Wal-mart Norah Jones. Redemption comes in the final stretch, Laconia proving Christina can pack a hefty punch, verging on a snarl to make her point. It is reinforced by the closing Unzipped, all controlled power and ethereal warbling.
