Video: Blipfoto users celebrate St Andrew’s Day

Waiting for Video...

A short film celebrating Scotland’s global reach, by showing images of people with Saltires from all over the world, will be used to celebrate St Andrews day for the first time.

Between two of Scotland’s most famous dates, St Andrew’s Day 2011 and Burns Night 2012, Blipfoto teamed up with Scotland.org and invited anyone, anywhere in the world to take a photo of themselves with a Saltire and share it on Blipfoto.com.

Using the entries, Blipfoto created a stop-motion film - ‘Scotland the World Over’.

The film, which already has tens of thousands of views online, is a social media collaboration involving more than 1,500 Scots and Scots at heart from 32 countries around the globe, using 715 images with a Saltire in the centre of the frame.

Scotland the World Over has been nominated for the prestigious “Best Digital Campaign” at Scotland’s PRide Awards on December 6th 2012.

Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond liked the video so much he recorded his own message on YouTube saying: “What an achievement 32 countries around the world showing the saltire in a variety of different ways. I like that people are showing they are proud of the country, proud of Scotland. What better way to move into the year of creative Scotland, the year of creativity in our country, than to see so many people so ingeniously presenting our national flag right across the 5 continents.”

Joe Tree, CEO and founder of Blipfoto, said: “From a Chinese school to an Inuit village, and from Times Square to Bondi Beach, people around the globe have come together to help create an iconic, quirky and captivating short film that celebrates a love of Scotland. Blipfoto was born and bred here, but what started as a small, local phenomenon has exploded and spread the world over. We’re very proud of our roots, so we were excited to help create something amazing to celebrate Scotland’s worldwide reach.”

Scottish BAFTA Award winning Blipfoto.com invites everyone to join their worldwide community to document and share their daily lives with others from around the globe. The simple and addictive concept is based on uploading just one new photo - taken that very day - to your journal. Some people do this every day and others as often as they can. Contributors are now spread across more than 170 countries, and the website receives more than 17 million page views per month from 10’s of thousands of registered Blipfoto users.
