Timelapse video: Northern Lights across rural Perthshire

Waiting for Video...

Stargazers across Scotland were treated to a stunning display of the Northern Lights last night, with many capturing the phenomenon on camera.

In the above timelapse video shot above Sheriffmuir, which was recorded by Andrew Wightman, the dynamism of the Aurora Borealis and the spectrum of colours that it can produce is shown.

The spate of sightings of the Aurora Borealis was caused by a solar eruption, which US space agency Nasa reported last week.

The Northern Lights can often be seen in Shetland, Orkney and the far north of Scotland, but this week they were reported sightings as far south as Fife and East Lothian.

See the rest of the images in our picture gallery.

If you have your own pictures of the Northern Lights last night, send them for publication to enquiries@scotsman.com or upload them to our Facebook page.
