A Scottish plumber has been shortlisted for the National Geographic 2012 photo contest with his image of a baby bonobo clinging to its mother.

The striking picture was taken by Graham McGeorge, 41, at Jacksonville Zoo, Florida.

Mr McGeorge is originally from Dumfries but emigrated to Florida in 1994, where he works as a plumbing foreman.

If he wins the contest Mr McGeorge plans to spend the $10,000 prize money on a trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo to photograph bonobos in the wild.

The rest of the shortlist can be viewed on the National Geographic website.
