THE Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has launched a search for a student to become its artist in residence.

The successful applicant, who must be studying at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), will have to produce work to be exhibited later this year.

Running from May to September, the post carries a £1,500 stipend. Landscape painter and ECA graduate Leo du Feu became the inaugural Tattoo artist last year.

Robert Gillan, associate head of the School of Design at ECA, said: “This competition is a great opportunity for our students to present their ideas on an international stage. It is a privilege to inject the broad range of creative ability nurtured at ECA into this already fabulous spectacle.”

Tattoo chief executive Brigadier David Allfrey said the collaboration allowed it to support young, creative people in Scotland.
