THIS Valentine’s Day, Scotland has a wide selection of unique events on offer for couples and singles alike. Here is our round-up of some of the country’s best romantic events, featuring everything from star-lit skiing to an educational evening with a rather amorous aquarium.

Librarian talks - love, Scottish Poetry Library, Edinburgh

When Robert Burns wrote that his love was like a red, red rose, he inspired countless Valentine’s messages the world over. This year, the Scottish Poetry Library is hosting an evening to celebrate the best of Scotland’s passionate poets, with Librarian Julie Johnstone discussing a selection of love-themed poems from the library’s special collections. So whether you are looking to swoon along to a sonnet, or learn a little about Scottish love poetry, then head down to SPL. Visitors are advised to book early, as places are limited to 8 per session.

(Tickets £5/3. See the Scottish Poetry Library’s website for more information)

Sunrise champagne balloon flight for two, Kinross

If you are tired of down to earth Valentine’s celebrations, then why not try commemorating the occasion 2000 feet in the air? Couples are given the opportunity to help inflate their own balloon before boarding their basket for take off. The flight itself lasts for roughly an hour, before the balloon is grounded and participants are invited to toast their flight with a glass of champagne.

This Valentine’s, CairnGorm is opening its upper bowls to an evening of floodlit skiing. Between the hours of 5pm and 8:30pm, skiiers are invited to enjoy the slopes by night. A post-skiing mug of hot chocolate also comes highly advised. This event is weather dependent, so keep checking the website for updates on which nights it is able to run.

(Price £15 per session, day time ski passes accepted. See CairnGorm Mountain resort for more information)

Sea of love, Deep Sea World, North Queensferry

If so, it’s your lucky day, as Deep Sea World is offering a unique late night Valentine’s Day attraction that offers precisely that. In a one off special, the aquarium is staying open until 8pm to give couples a chance to explore all of its hotspots. The evening will include extra talks and up-close encounters with the inhabitants.
