Scot’s Hitler book now a TV series

THE Scottish historian whose ground-breaking research debunked Nazi claims that Hitler was a hero of the Great War has secured a deal to have his book turned into an international television mini-series.

Two years ago, Dr Thomas Weber, a historian at Aberdeen University, published Hitler’s First War, which countered the dictator’s propaganda portrayal as a courageous soldier who fought in some of the fiercest battles of the First World War.

Using previously unseen
archives of Hitler’s regiment, Dr Weber showed that the dictator exaggerated his role as a soldier in the defeated German army in the Great War and in his role as dispatch runner taking messages to officers.

It was revealed yesterday that his milestone research is now to be brought to the screen in an eight-episode television series by Nico Hofmann and Jan Mojto, whose previous films include Dresden, Storm Tide, Operation Valkyrie, Hindenburg and The Tower.

Dr Weber said: “Even with all the previous attempts to shed light on the Third Reich, the War and the genocide, Hitler himself remains mysteriously vapid. Our self-imposed benchmark for a new series on Hitler must be to change this.”
