Jim picks a selection for the week ahead

Most of us regard maternity leave as a time when time and energy is more than fully occupied with a new arrival in the family. Not so immunologist Dr Rabinder Buttar, who used hers to set up her Glasgow-based clinical research company, Clintec International, now boasting a turnover of more than £14 million.

In a cultural spill-over from the 
Olympiad, the Scottish Poetry Library, in conjunction with the BBC, has selected some of the most memorable poems from each of the competing nations and, in POETRY 2012 – THE POWER OF THE POEM, the Jamaican poet and Glasgow University creative writing lecturer Kei Miller presents some of the poems, which can launch the reader on unexpectedly emotional journeys.

And for a journey into a creepy post-apocalyptic world, try THE CHRYSALIDS, a new, two-part radio adaptation of John Wyndham’s novel about mutated children with telepathic powers, while on Radio 4 Extra you can hear a 17-part re-run of another Wyndham classic, THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.
