BBC has ‘lessons to learn’ from Jubilee
Outgoing BBC director-general Mark Thompson said the corporation has “lessons to learn” from its coverage of the Diamond Jubilee river pageant.
Mr Thompson said there were “one or two inaccuracies in the commentary which we shouldn’t have had”, but said internal polling showed most viewers gave the show a rating of eight out of ten.
The corporation received more than 4,500 complaints, mostly about the pageant and the commentary, during the national celebrations. Mr Thompson said: “Like any programme and any live programme we have lessons to learn.”
He praised the coverage of the concert at Buckingham Palace as “one of the best things of its kind we have ever done”.
