AN Edinburgh hotel has been named the best luxury hotel in the UK and one of the top in Europe by reviews website TripAdvisor for the second year running.
The five-star Chester Residence, in the West End, has been named “No 1 luxury hotel in the UK” and the “seventh best luxury hotel in Europe” in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2015.
The hotel, which has 19 serviced suites and offers rooms starting at around £130 a night, has received almost 1,200 “excellent” ratings on the site, where guests described it as “something special” and “magical”.
Across Scotland, 14 properties have won awards this year in eight categories, with Pitlochry home to more winners than any other Scottish destination.
Pitlochry’s Fonab Castle Hotel takes third place in the UK luxury category and 11th in Europe. The hotel also came 11th in the UK small hotels category.
For romance, Fonab Castle Hotel was named seventh best in the UK and 22nd in Europe, while Knockendarroch House Hotel took 11th place in the UK romance list and also boasts the title of 11th best small hotel and 22nd for best service in the UK.
Also honoured for best service is the town’s Atholl Villa, coming ninth in the UK and 15th in Europe. The hotel also makes the small hotels category, coming sixth in the UK and 22nd in Europe. The Green Park Hotel came 21st among the UK’s top hotels.
The Chester Residence’s win comes a year after it scooped the site’s “No 1 UK small hotel of the year 2014” and “No 1 UK and European luxury hotel of the year 2014”, as well as “serviced apartments of the year 2014” in the Scottish Hotel Awards.
The hotel, which launched in 2006 in a row of Georgian town-houses, offers guests “add-on packages” such as the “romance package”, which provides extras like breakfast in bed and a glass of Champagne on arrival for an additional £95.
Owner of the Chester Residence, Graham Wood, said: “We are delighted our guests have recognised the efforts of our team in the awards for the third-year running. It’s always great to receive feedback and winning these coveted awards is the highest compliment.
“Our team works exceptionally hard to ensure each guest’s stay is as luxurious and enjoyable as possible. It’s an incredible achievement and I’d like to thank all of our team members for their dedication and the excellent service they provide.”
Earlier this year, the hotel’s stable expanded north, with the opening of the Chester Hotel in Aberdeen. A recent review on TripAdvisor, from guest Helen F, said: “The Chester Residence is something special – great accommodation, great service and very friendly people. Nothing is too much hassle for the staff – all are happy and chatty and made mine and my friends’ experience very enjoyable.”
James Kay, for TripAdvisor, said: “These awards recognise the finest hotels across the globe, according to those that really matter – the guests. This year is particularly good news for the UK hotel industry, with the UK home to more of the world’s best-rated properties than any other country.”
