Twitter’s video app Vine cut down by Facebook

TWITTER and Facebook are embroiled in another row - and this time it’s video rather than photos that has caused the problem.

Twitter’s new video-sharing service Vine, which allows users to share .gif-style videos of up to six seconds with each other, launched its iPhone app yesterday.

Within hours, users looking to add their friends from Facebook to their Vine network were met with a message that “Vine is not authorised to make this Facebook request”.

Facebook’s gesture is the latest in a series of moves by social networks looking to keep control over their platforms.

Facebook purchased photo-sharing site Instagram last year and began to integrate its features into Facebook. This prompted Twitter to remove in-line support for Instagram pictures, forcing users to leave their Twitter feeds to look at photos.

Twitter also released a series of Instagram-style filters for images sent on its own mobile apps.

Neither Twitter nor Facebook have commented on the Vine issue.
