Game review: Warlords; PS3/Xbox 360

Warlords was a four-player arcade game in the 1980s, and in this update the basic principle remains the same as you defend your castle, batting fireballs away with your shield towards your opponents’ fortresses.

You can also catch and charge these balls of flame for extra damage (but don’t hold on to them for too long as they will start damaging your own walls). Last castle standing is the winner.

The biggest change is the addition of minions (called Snoots) who you can order to repair, attack or pick up bonuses. It adds a pleasing level of strategy to a game that sometimes feels too random. As with all such games, it’s a case of the more the merrier, and adding up to three mates to the action vastly improves the fun factor.
