Game review: Gravity RushPS Vita, £34.99

Gravity Rush

Gravity Rush

Another superb reason to pick up a PS Vita, Gravity Rush is a charming open-world game which follows Kat, a lost girl who awakes in the town of Hekseville with no memory.

When swarms of mysterious creatures called Nevi attack the townspeople, Kat learns she has the power to shift gravity, and quickly earns the trust of the civilians while setting out to reclaim her forgotten past.

Kat can travel across the city by changing the flow of gravity to fall across the city skyline at breakneck speed, launch diving kicks at enemies and hurl everyday objects like lethal projectiles using stasis powers. The game throws many elements into the mix such as exploration, hack ’n’ slash combat and platforming, giving gamers plenty to enjoy.

By completing story missions and side challenges, Kat can earn currency that can be spent on upgrading skills, or unlocking new moves, ensuring there is always a sense of progression driving you forward. The story starts off slowly, but quickly sucks you in with the unravelling mystery surrounding Kat’s identity and the origin of her powers.

Presented through colourful visuals and hand-drawn comic book sequences, Gravity Rush will be an instant hit with fans of anime shows and Studio Ghibli. The imagery on screen once again underlines the PS Vita’s technical power, and it’s encouraging to see a new IP like this handled with such care and lavish attention to detail. Check it out.
