Education bill

An article and the leader (22 September) referred to the separate campaigns mounted by the General Councils of St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities, inviting their members to express opposition to the Higher Education Governance (Scotland) Bill.

As you highlighted, these are extremely unusual moves – unprecedented in the case of St Andrews General Council – reflecting the deep concerns of our graduates for the Scottish Government’s proposals.

In St Andrews, we have received copies of more than 300 emails and letters individually written by our graduates to the Education and Culture Committee, an astounding response.

Like you, we trust the Scottish Government will take heed.
