A FISH and chip shop in Shetland has been crowned the best in Scotland at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Frankie’s Fish & Chips in Brae will now compete to be land the UK crown of Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year as part of the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards.

It is one of ten shops shortlisted across Britain who are bidding for the ultimate title.

Each shop faces a rigorous judging process with assessments on a variety of criteria including product quality, sustainable sourcing policies, marketing initiatives and service. The finalists will now attend a study trip to Norway, organised by award sponsor the Norwegian Seafood Council to see first-hand why the country is regarded as one of the world’s most sustainable fishing nations.

Valerie Johnson and John Gold, owners of Frankie’s Fish and Chips, said: “We are passionate about fish and chips and are fortunate enough to have a great team who share our enthusiasm for all aspects of running the shop.”
