A TURTLE at home in its natural habitat and a polar bear floating just below the surface of the freezing waters of Hudson Bay, Canada, are among the most remarkable images recognised by judges of Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.

Luis Javier Sandoval won the Behaviour: Cold-blooded Animals category following his dive off the beaches of the Yucatan Peninsula, near Cancún, Mexico.

Paul Souders waited for three days to capture a polar bear for the Animals in Their Environment category, while two images of monkeys - a black macaque group charging across the beach in Tangkoko National Park, Indonesia and a Japanese macaque - also won top prizes.
