Theatre review: Skye, Greenside (Venue 231), Edinburgh

THIS new play, ably performed by students of North London Collegiate School, asks who are we to judge when a toddler is left in a hot car by a young mother who is then dragged through court.

The conclusion seems to be that everyone makes mistakes, but when these mistakes put a child in danger it’s more complicated than Deborah Gibbs’s script suggests.

There are some imaginative movement pieces between scenes, but these end up feeling more emotive than the on-the-nose dialogue and issue-driven story, which leave little time for character development and risk drifting into the territory of TV soap-land.

• Until 25 August. Today 5pm.
