Theatre: Miller’s American dream of success

The Man Who Had All The Luck

The Man Who Had All The Luck

DAVID Beeves, a motor mechanic in rural America in the late 1930s, is blessed with good fortune. In contrast, his family and friends face difficult times.

Yet the more success David achieves, the more guilty, depressed and paranoid he feels about the plight of those around him. What will happen when his luck runs out...

Arthur Miller described his work as having the ‘American dream’ as its background, with the ‘American nightmare’ at its foreground.

Written in 1944, The Man Who Had All the Luck was his first foray onto Broadway - it closed after just four performances. Today it’s viewed as a classic. Decide for yourself when Sell A Door Theatre Company tour it to a venue near you.
