Preview: Oliver!, Our Lady of Loretto Church Hall

Consider yourself, well in... That’s the message from the members of Musselburgh’s Our Lady of Loretto Youth Players, or OLOLYP as they’re known locally.

Now in their 24th year, the company present their take on Broadway and West End favourite Oliver! at the Our Lady of Loretto Church Hall, Newbigging, all this week.

Lionel Bart’s musical, which tells the story of Oliver Twist, an orphan thrown out of the workhouse for asking for more and includes a host of hit musical numbers, including Where is Love?, Consider Yourself, Oom Pah Pah and Reviewing the Situation.

Director David Ross, a second year drama student at Queen Margaret University, says, “With more than 30 children in this years show, all aged between 10 and 18, and a large number of adults involved, there is a real community feel about this show.”

He adds, “I’ve been involved since I was 10-years-old as a performer and this is my fifth production as artistic director, so the group has a very special place in my heart”.

Musical Director and co-founder of the group, Roy McGillivray, continues, “An incredible amount of work goes in to putting on our annual show and all throughout the year. The children really are fantastic to work with and take in everything we ask them to, there is a superb array of young talent on show.”

Head along, OLOLYP promise to leave you asking for more.

Oliver!, Our Lady of Loretto Church Hall, Newbigging, until Saturday (not tonight), 7.30pm (Sat matinee 1.30pm), £8, 0131-665 4519/0131-653 3402
