Musical review: My Little Songbook, Mood Nightclub (Venue 307), Edinburgh

EMILY Rose gets a bad deal on her opening night, with the noise of a loud band – bleeding in from another room – trampling all over the cheerful intimacy she’s trying to conjure with her Regina Spektor-style quirky misfit songs for voice and piano, interspersed with explanatory chatty anecdotes about dating neuroscientists, the stupid things posh kids say and getting shouted at by a Beatle.

My Little Songbook

Mood Nightclub (Venue 307)

Star rating: * *

Poor sound quality aside, her little songbook proves to be filled with decidedly MOR stuff – the witty moments aren’t exactly laugh-out-loud funny, nor the poignant ones particularly tear jerking. But she’s a likeable and out-of-the- ordinary young performer who belongs on the stage.

• Until 25 August. Today 5:30pm.
