Five things to do at the Edinburgh Fringe: Friday August 10

Today’s picks: Phill Jupitus, MacFloyd, Treasure Island, Big Sean, Mikey and Me, and Bugsy Malone.

COMEDY

PHILL JUPITUS: With a sold-out run and critical acclaim across the board, the star of the Never Mind The Buzzcocks took Edinburgh by storm last year. Can he repeat the trick in 2012? The Stand, 6.45pm, £12, 0131-558 7272

MUSIC

MACFLOYD: The “Scottish Pink Floyd” perform on the Fringe for one night only, with an impressive light show and more than two hours of songs from the classic albums Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and The Division Bell. It’s a journey back to spectacular times. Brunton Theatre, 7.30pm, £15.50 (£13.50), 0131-623 3030

KIDS

TREASURE ISLAND: Join honest Jim Hawkins as he sets sail on a frantically funny high seas adventure. Fun for the family as he tries to outsmart Long John Silver. Gilded Balloon Teviot, 12.15pm, £8 (£7), 0131-623 3030

theatre

BIG SEAN, MIKEY AND ME: Irvine Welsh described this as a “pure slice of Edinburgh class”. So join Big Sean Connery, Hibs boys (that’s football casuals, folks), sadomasochistic Irish girls, American randoms, London metrosexual weirdos and wee radge Edinburgh
wide-os on this dark comic journey with a heart. Like Irvine was, you will be entertained, ken.

Gilded Balloon Teviot, 1.30pm, £10 (£7.50), 0131-623 3030

MUSICAL

BUGSY MALONE: Portobello Youth Theatre splurge to the stage with their brand new show. As you’d expect, it’s packed with hoodlums, showgirls and dreamers. Granted, there are no doubt some more lavish musicals being staged at this year’s Fringe, but if you’re looking for good, honest family entertainment, then you won’t go far wrong with this one. C Too, 11.45am, £10.50 (£8.50), 0131-623 3030
