Comedy reviews: Christian Reilly: This Is Not A Love Song, Whistlebinkies (Venue 158),
GET in early if you want to see this man. There was standing room only left when I saw him. Reilly is a charmingly confident performer, an accomplished musician and a clever comic.
Christian Reilly: This Is Not A Love Song
Whistlebinkies (Venue 158)
Rating: ***
His stock-in-trade is the comedy song with which he sticks it to anyone and anything that gets on his wrong side. And there seems to be a queue on his wrong side. Headed by Jennifer, who broke his heart. Well, thank you Jennifer, because Christian got one of the funniest songs I have heard in a long time out of the fallout.
In this hour we get sex, politics and a load of rock’n’roll. You will never need to download another Springsteen, Chilli Peppers or Arctic Monkeys album after this show. Much to my joy, we even get Bryan Ferry. Plus a brilliant failsafe solution to the economic crisis.
Reilly is reminiscent of a young Phil Nichol in some ways (NB that is a huge compliment, Christian) and anyone that thinks men can’t fake orgasms as well as women needs to see this Mr Reilly in action. Might offend Bono and Peter Kay fans.
