Flag wavering

David Stevenson (Letters, 9 July) wrote of the Lion Rampant: “But in practice we use it as a second national flag.”

It is my contention that this has come about due to ignorance and lack of education in Scottish history and culture, which has always been of secondary importance since 1707, and perhaps even since 1603.

This ignorance was compounded when the Queen took EIIR as her cipher.

Would it be possible to buy and fly the current Royal Standard, such as the one which flies over Buckingham Palace? I think not.
