MSP calls for Trump to beput out of Scots network

Donald Trump should be kicked out of a worldwide network for business professionals with Scottish connections, a Green MSP said.

Patrick Harvie urged the First Minister to push for the US tycoon’s removal from GlobalScot.

The comment came a day after Mr Trump’s appearance before a Scottish Parliament committee investigating renewable energy targets.

Mr Trump used the appearance to pour scorn on “phoney” carbon reduction targets, question man-made climate change and campaign against plans for an offshore wind turbine test centre near his golf course on the Aberdeenshire coast.

At First Minister’s Questions yesterday, Mr Harvie said: “Now that my favourite pantomime villain has left the stage for now, I hope the First Minister is coming to regret having been drawn so easily into Mr Trump’s orbit, finding himself now with a half-built carbuncle in his constituency and a billionaire threatening legal action against a vital demonstration site for offshore wind power.”

He called for the Scottish Government to treat the planning application for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre in Aberdeen Bay with the “seriousness it deserves”.

Mr Harvie added: “Defend it vigorously in the courts if it comes to that, and take no delay in telling Mr Trump where to get off.

“Kicking him out of the GlobalScot network would be a good start.”

Mr Salmond said he could not agree with all the points.

A spokesman for the First Minister later said Mr Trump would not be removed from GlobalScot.
