Up and Coming: I Am Arrows
Who is Arrows? Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Andy Burrows, best known to date as Razorlight's drummer. No, come back – he was the lovely bloke everyone liked. We Are Scientists liked him so much, they asked him to be their drummer when he departed Razorlight.
Singing drummer, eh? Sounds promising…Titter ye not. Burrows already has one album under his belt – the ultra lo-fi blink-and-you'll-miss-it The Colour of My Dreams, featuring 11 child-like songs inspired by a book of kids' poetry, with a total running time of 13 minutes, which he recorded to raise funds for a children's hospice.
Like you already said, he's a nice guy. But what about the music?
Forthcoming I Am Arrows debut, Sun Comes Up Again, is a more hi-fi affair but with a nave 1970s bubblegum pop charm - debut single Green Grass sounds like one of the Scissor Sisters' mellower moments. Burrows played everything on the album himself, but has since put together a touring band.
What are other folks saying?
"Think Wings, Andrew Gold or any number of bearded musos from 1976-8" – The Guardian
"Put The Beatles in a blender with MGMT, mix with a little Elliott Smith at his most upbeat and you're getting close" – Music Week
